Omigod you guys! Remember in June when Brian and I entered the 2012 JRB Summer Karaoke Competition like the total musical-theatre nerd I am? (Yes . . . I made him do it.) We made it to the semi-finals! Can you even believe it? Now, of course, like any talent contest in America these days, you have to vote. So, I’m asking you, pretty please with sugar on top, to take a minute, follow these super easy steps that I just happen to have typed up for you, and vote for Brian and me. (Just so you know, I will also being voting for us. I didn’t vote for myself during the 7th-grade student council elections, and I lost. I’m not saying it’s because I didn’t vote for myself, but you never know. Actually, now that I think about it, it might have been because my dad was the assistant principal.) Anyway, voting’s as easy as 1-2-3 . . . or pie, whatever you prefer. Here you go:
1. Check out the list of semi-finalists here. You have to vote for five submissions, so you’ll need to choose three others in addition to Brian and me. (I know there are a lot of names. You probably won’t have time at work to listen to them all. So, when trying to decide which ones to listen to, I suggest finding a name you like, looking for your home state, or consulting your magic eight ball.)
2. Compose (You like that?) an e-mail to Jason Robert Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org with SEMIFINAL LIST/[YOUR NAME] as the subject. (Obviously, you should put your name – your real name – where he put [YOUR NAME].)
3. List your top five semi-finalists in descending order with #1 being your favorite – so me or Brian. (I know it will be hard to choose between the two of us for your number one spot, but it’s not like it’s Sophie’s Choice. And we’ll never know.) Hit send.
Note from JRB: Don’t send multiple lists, and don’t send any lists with more or fewer than five entries.
JRB will tabulate all of those lists, post the totals, and those totals will be applied after the judges have chosen the finalists, which looks to be around November. Just in time for the holidays! Thanks, Santa. (Wink, wink.)
But enough about me. What about you? How was your weekend? I hope it was rad. I’m happy to report that I actually had a super weekend. I saw a new play (I love my friends) and the inside of AmVets (my friends have membership cards and I’m totally jealous), tried Linzertorte (character research), had friends over for dinner (made this chili), helped my students sing pretty, and went to the DQ. Does it get much better than that in The Dirty*? I think not.
Before I go, friends, I want you to know that I really appreciate you taking time to vote for us. You’re the best. No, really, you are. Please let me know if I can vote for you in anyway! That’s what friends are for. Well, that, and baked goods. Smooches.
*For those of you unfamiliar with the term, “The Dirty” is short for “The Dirty 330,” which is how I affectionately refer to Northeast Ohio. The area code here is 330, and well, it’s kinda dirty.
