I am in the market for a new cardio routine. Or maybe I should rephrase: I am in the market for a cardio routine. I’ve been committed to my yoga practice for almost two years now (Woohoo!), but I have been super lazy about sticking to any sort of aerobic exercise to supplement. I thought that a walking routine would be a good fit because it seemed logical to take Scarlett with me as we both benefit. But frankly, it’s slow-going, and I don’t feel like I’m actually working. Plus, I always end up taking a dog or two with us, and any joy I may have derived from the walk usually dissipates within the first five minutes of trying to drag the dog who has decided not to move along with me. I used to run, but my problem with running is two-fold:
- It hurts.
- It hurts.
Not only does running make my hamstrings so tight that Rag Doll Pose is work, there isn’t a sports bra in this world that keeps the girls happy. Believe me: I have tried them all. And running on a treadmill is pretty much the worst thing ever when the only channel your gym plays is Fox News. I’m just not into it. So, I think I may be a little crazy, but I really want to try swimming.
Swimming is low-impact and really excellent for breath management (Right, singers?), and because of this, you can do it well into older age. And have you seen what swimmers look like? Yeah: awesome. Also, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t maybe a little excited to wear a swim cap. Now, I just have to work up the courage to dive in. Literally.
What do you think, friends? Are any of you swimmers out there? I’d love to hear any tips you might have!
