10 Things I’ve Learned

February 27, 2012

Today while I was playing with Scarlett, I started thinking about the bits of wisdom I’ve collected over the years that I’d like to share with her as she grows up. I thought about things that my dad has told me over the years, and things that I wish someone had told me sooner. Here are a few of the things that came to mind:

  1. Always take your make-up off and your contacts out before bed.
  2. First impressions may not always be right, but your intuition almost always is.
  3. Always say hello, good-bye, please, and thank you. And smile.
  4. If a pair of jeans fits in the store, they will be too big after one wear. If you think they’re a little too tight, that’s the right size.
  5. Get properly fitted for a bra by a fitting specialist. (No, not Victoria’s Secret.) The right size makes all the difference.
  6. Sometimes it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.
  7. Don’t put it down; put it away. And clean up spills as they happen.
  8. No matter what anyone does to you or says about you, don’t talk badly about them. It won’t make them look bad; it makes you look bad.
  9. Don’t take it personally.
  10. You truly can do anything, if you put your mind to it.
